Germany: a man opens fire in a university and made several wounded

A man made several wounded, Monday, January 24, after opening the fire in an amphitheater of a university in southwestern Germany, the local police announced that the assailant was dead.

The facts took place on the campus of the University of Heidelberg. “Here’s what we know for the moment: an isolated assailant injured several people in an amphitheater with a rifle. The assailant is himself dead,” wrote the Mannheim police on Twitter.

Police and emergency services have deployed in number in the Neuenheimer Feld neighborhood in Heidelberg, southwestern Germany of Germany a few tens of kilometers from the border with France. This academic site, on the north shore of the Neckar River, welcomes the faculties of natural sciences, departments of the university hospital and the botanical garden.

According to the public channel information Südwestrundfunk (SWR), the university asked by e-mail to its students not to go to the Neuenheimer Feld neighborhood campus for the moment. There would be, however, “more imminent threat”, according to SWR.
