West saw the “open door” for the revival of the Treaty on the elimination of rockets of the average and less distance (DRSMD) and mutual restrictions on nuclear weapons in the replies of the United States and NATO on the proposals of Russia on security guarantees. This is reported by the newspaper New York Times.
“Documents also make it clear that Russia has no veto’s right to the presence of nuclear weapons, troops or conventional weapons in NATO countries. But they open the door for mutual restrictions on medium and low-range nuclear weapons, including the revival of DRSMD,” writes edition.
It is noted that the United States and the North Atlantic Alliance expressed their willingness to discuss the rules and scope of military exercises, as well as to limit them in places removed from the borders so that they could not be confused with armies, ready to invade the territory of another state.
Earlier, on January 12, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg accused Russia that she allegedly violated an agreement on the elimination of medium and less rockets (DRSMD). At the same time, the head of the alliance stressed that the union is ready to sign a new similar document.
Action DRSMD was officially discontinued on August 2, 2020. The United States broke out an agreement from 1987 allegedly due to violations of its conditions by the Russian side. Moscow denies the charges.
