Qualcomm created a smartphone without a physical SIM card. This is reported on the company’s website.
The specialists of the American corporation presented a prototype phone that does not have a slot for a physical SIM card and a programmable ESIM card. The technology was developed in conjunction with Vodafone and Thales specialists. The integrated SIM card (Integrated SIM, ISIM) module is embedded in the main smartphone processor. In the future, the consumer will be able to record its current tariff directly on the chip.
Company engineers predict the emergence of such devices in the market. The device’s prototype with an ISIM was created on the basis of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G smartphone, the SIM card was built into the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. According to developers, such a solution saves a place in the gadget, which is now occupied by an ESIM SIM slot or a separate ESIM slot.
“The solution will allow our clients to use multiple accounts on one device, and from the point of view of the operator will help to eliminate the need for separate SIM cards and consumption of plastic on their production,” said Vodafone Alex Fromant-Kutor.
In the autumn of 2021, Rosquaching experts listed important functions that have accessible smartphones on the market. These include the presence of NFC, the possibility of biometric authentication, support for ESIM.
