Transit of power in Belarus can be discussed two or three years after adopting a new constitution on the referendum, but not before. This statement was made by the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko after visiting military facilities in the Brest region, the Zerkalo portal writes.
Politician found this term sufficient so that Belarusians could “start living under the law” and “quietly and calmly rebuild everything.” At the same time, he assured that he does not recognize any ways to change power in the republic, except for “honest elections.” “I swear like your people. There will be only so. And no one will take anyone over whom. I will not keep power by force,” Lukashenko promised once again.
At the same time, he admitted that he was experiencing a possible coming to power “not those people”, because of which the country could go “not the way.” In this vein, he called the draft updated constitution and the coming referendum “the essence of democracy”. “We will make a strongest step towards real democracy, where the people will decide on the referendum, how to live, and we, the servants of the people, will fulfill the will of the people,” the president’s election winned six times in a row.
Voting on amendments to the Constitution of Belarus appointed on February 27, 2022. Lukashenko himself repeatedly stressed that the coming changes “he is not needed at all”, but Belarusians are interested in them.
At the same time, the Belarusian opposition intends to seek the abolition of a referendum or at least a refusal to refer its results to the international community. The corresponding call published on January 20, the former presidential candidate of the Republic of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.
