Serbia’s decision to abandon the project of the British-Australian company Rio Tinto for the extraction of lithium in the country collapsed by the promotion of the concern. At the auction in Australia, the paper lost more than four percent, in London – fall almost three percent.
On January 20, Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Branbich at a meeting of the government reported that all permits related to the global giant project were canceled.
The position of Belgrade is due to protests of environmental activists. Now, according to BRNABIC, their requirements are made, and a point in Serbia is put on “Rio Tinto”. The prime minister stressed that the decision of the government is finally, and the question of a possible claim from the giant did not want to discuss.
Reuters, in turn, notes that Belgrade refused the project against the background of a worsened relationship with Australia: the country had previously decided on the deportation of the Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovich, which was explained by the violation of anticoronevirus requirements. Now the athlete is going to sue the authorities of Australia.
