The European Commission (EC) intends to challenge Russia’s restrictions on the export of wood. She decided to make a request to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on consulting with Russia, reported on the EC website.
Restrictions are to increase export duties on some types of products and a significant decrease in the number of customs points, through which such exports can go, noted in the European Commission.
Are sure that the forest export restrictions entered by the Russian authorities are seriously undermined by the EU woodworking industry, aimed at exporting untreated wood from Russia, and also create uncertainty in the global market of wood. “
According to the WTO standards, Russia pledged to use maximum duties at 13 and 15 percent for different wood species, but new duties reach 80 percent, “said in a statement.
In Russia, the increased rates on the export of certain types of sawn timber came into force in Russia, which should allow to limit the removal of untreated wood under the guise of sawn timber. In the Ministry of Industry, they explained, it is done “to increase the volume of exports of high value-added products, as well as to curb the overproof groups in others.”
