Tokayev promised not to turn from course to political upgrades

President Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev in his Twitter promised not to turn from the course to the political modernization of the country .

“Kazakhstan remains committed to its international obligations and universal principles in the field of human rights and the rule of law. We will never crumble from the course of further political modernization. Development, stability and reform are impossible in the conditions of chaos. Law and order – the basis of our stability”, – told Tokayev on Thursday, January 20th.

On the eve, the Lower Chamber of the Parliament of Kazakhstan adopted amendments, depriving the first President of Nursultan Nazarbayev of Lifetime to head the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan and the Security Council. Powers were officially transferred to Tokayev.

On January 2, mass protests began in Kazakhstan due to the sharp rise in gas prices for cars. Soon the economic demands were replaced by political, and the rallies turned into riots. For their suppression they threw the army. According to official data, 227 people died.

Tokayev called protesters terrorists and said that he gave an order to open fire for defeat without warning. The Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi said that the president did not mean in demonstrators. “It was a strong signal to armed militants,” said the minister.
