Nazarbayev prospekt renamed Kazakhstan’s television

In Kazakhstani television, renamed the name of the first president of Nursultan Nazarbayev in Alma-Ata. It is reported by Telegram Channel ORDA.

On the air of the State Channel “Khabar 24” Avenue Nazarbayev called the old name – Furmanov. In the information plot, it was about limiting the movement due to the anti-terrorist operation. At the same time, the current name was mentioned in the Russian-speaking passage.

Until 2017, the street in Alma-Ata wore the name of the Soviet writer Dmitry Furmanov, the author of the novel “Chapaev”. In 2017, she became Nazarbayev Avenue. In 2019, when Nazarbayev resigned, in his honor renamed the capital of Kazakhstan Astana. She began to be called Nur-Sultan.

In January 2022, against the background of the political crisis in Kazakhstan, a petition for returning the capital of the previous name appeared on the Internet. The authors of the appeal also urge to rename all the streets named after the former president, give them neutral names, “emphasizing statehood, unity and independence of the country.”
