US SENAT on January 13 votes under law on sanctions for “Northern Flow-2”

Voting on the draft law of the Senator Ted Cruz on the introduction of sanctions against the gas pipeline “North Stream-2” will be held on January 13, follows from the work schedule of the US Senate.

On January 13, the Senators of the Upper Chamber of the US Congress vote for the Cruise Ted Bench. It provides for the introduction of economic sanctions against the Russian gas pipeline “Northern Stream-2” (SP-2).

Hearings on the draft law S.3436 “On the protection of energy security of Europe” will be held at 10:00 (18:00 Moscow time). Voting itself is scheduled for about 14:45 (22:45 Moscow time). For the adoption of the law, you need a minimum of 60 votes.

If the bill is adopted, then against “all officials of the company, created for planning, construction or operation of the Northern Flow-2, as well as against its leadership,” sanctions will be introduced, namely the arrest of assets in American jurisdiction and ban on Entry in the USA.

Senator Cruz thus tries to cancel the abolition of exemption from American regiments of the operator of the gas pipeline – the company NORD STREAM 2 AG and its executive director of Mattias Varniga.

January 12, Senator from the Democratic Party of the United States, Mark Warner, made a criticism of the draft law on the introduction of new sanctions against the Russian Northern Flow-2 gas pipeline, which suggested the Republican Ted Cruz. Democrat expressed skeptical attitude towards the Russian project. However, in his opinion, the restrictive measures of the United States against the “Northern Flood-2” will betray the interests of Germany.

Previously, the United States was confessed in the intentional slowing down the launch of the “Northern Flow-2”. Victoria Nuland Deputy US Secretary of State reported that the country works with Germany and the European Union to postpone the launch of the Russian gas pipeline.
