The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharov answered the statement of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinkin that NATO never gave Russia promises not to expand east. She wrote about this in its Telegram Channel.
“What is what it is happening with American comrades – they do not understand, they do not remember,” said Zakharov. She recalled that she had previously published the chronology of the assurances of Western countries in the east of NATO to the east and duplicated their post dated June 15, 2021, in which the “gaps in the knowledge of Western media themselves” and published documentary evidence of assurances not to expand NATO east.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken denied the promise of NATO of Russia not to expand east. “NATO never promised not to accept new members. She could not and would not have done this: the open door policy was the key position of the North Atlantic Treaty of 1949, which was founded by NATO,” he said.
