Increase in number of COVID-19 infections in Kazakhstan tied with riots

In the disorders covered by the riots, there is a sharp deterioration in the epidemiological situation. This was stated in the Ministry of Health of the country, reports RIA Novosti.

In particular, the city of Nur-Sultan passed into the Red zone due to the distribution of Omicron-strain of coronavirus. Among all identified cases of infection, the new version of COVID-19 has been detected from more than eight percent of the infected. The virus is also actively distributed in Alta-Ata.

January 5, President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev appealed to the CSTO for help because of the riots started in the country. On January 2, protests began in Kazakhstani cities due to the increase in gas prices for cars from 60 to 120 tenge. Later, they turned into disorders with the requirements of the first president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev from politics, holding new elections and the dissolution of parliament. The most significant collisions occurred in Almaty.
