The value of Russia as a gas supplier for Europe will increase due to reduction in the European Union (EU). This was announced by the general director of the German energy company Uniper Claus Dieter Mabach in an interview with Rheinische Post.
He commented on the current gas deficit and the rise in prices for it in Europe and called the restoration of the global economy as the reasons for such a tendency after the COVID-19 pandemic caused by the crises.
At the same time, Mabach did not answer the question of whether Russia uses the situation in the energy market the situation for the pressure with the aim of speeding up the North Stream-2 gas pipeline. The Uniper general director also stressed that the Russian side is the most important supplier of gas to Europe, and added that its role in this issue will increase due to the decline in local production of this fuel.
Earlier, Mabakh stated that the “Northern Flow-2” certification could end by mid 2022. According to him, the launch of the pipeline will make it easy to facilitate the situation on the European gas market.
