Relationship between blood group and Covid-19 infection is shown

Scientists of the University of Kent in the UK showed how blood group affects susceptibility to COVID-19. This is reported in the article published in the Epidemics magazine.

According to the results of the study, the probability of coronavirus contamination from infected patients is 2-3 times higher for those who are compatible recipient when blood transfusion. This explains why people with a blood group 0 (group I), which are universal donors, have a lower risk of infection. At the same time, they can infect people of any blood type.

These features in the transmission of the virus indicate that the differences in the frequency of blood groups can be partly associated with differences in the severity of the epidemic around the world, since countries with a wider variety of blood groups will be natural obstacles to the circulation of the virus.

However, experts emphasize that to give preference to any single group of blood when vaccinating is worse than a random choice. Nevaccinated people with a blood group 0 represent a potential danger to other people.
