The participants of the “gas” protests in the Kazakh Zhanaozen were proactious from the central square of the Nurlan Nurlan Nogaeva and his subordinates who came to negotiate the Akim of the Mangystau Region. This is reported by Radio Azattyk (included by the Ministry of Justice of Russia into the register of foreign media performing the functions of a foreign agent).
The head of the regional administration came to the protester and said that after the instructions of the President Tokaeva, the authorities met with private entrepreneurs who own gas stations, and agreed that prices at refueling would decrease to 85-90 tenge. However, residents continued to demand price reduction up to 50 tenge. They did not allow Nogaev to continue and called him a “storyteller”, after which Akim left the square.
Earlier it was reported that the protesters blocked the road from the Aktau airport, where, according to eyewitnesses, on January 3, two military transport aircraft landed.
Protests in Kazakhstan began in the morning of January 2 in Zhanaozen and other settlements of the Mangystau region. Motorists demanded to reduce the cost of liquefied gas, which increased dramatically from 60 to 120 tenge (from 10.2 to 20.5 Russian ruble) per liter.
