In the Kazakhstan city city of Aktau, protesters against the growth of gas prices for cars demanded the resignation of the current government. On the night of Tuesday, January 4, Aktau participants of the “gas” protests gathered on the Square of Yantmak before the regional administration. There they installed tents and yurt and called for the resignation of the government. It is noted that the protesters chant “Shal, Ket!” (“Old man, go!”) – The slogan that sounds on many protest actions, whose participants advocate for the departure of the first President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev from politics.
According to one of the locals, the protesters also announced a resolution in which the authorities demanded to eradicate corruption and courage, to build factories and plants and reduce unemployment. He added that by the morning, the area of Yantmak was detained by the police, and the passage was blocked there.
January 2, in the Mangystau region of Kazakhstan, motorists came out on protest shares against rising gas prices for cars. They demanded to reduce the cost of liquefied fuel, which increased dramatically from 60 to 120 tenge (from 10.2 to 20.5 Russian ruble) per liter. It was reported that the police tried to dispersed the protesters and applied strength to them.
