From January 1, 2022, a full ban on the removal from the territory of Russia untreated or rudely treated timber of coniferous and valuable hardwood from the territory of Russia has entered into force. The prohibition is introduced by order of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, which he gave back in September 2020.
Then the president sharply criticized the state of the timber industry in Russia and especially in the Far East. The state of affairs, he described in words “I don’t climb into any gate, because” purely archaic, consumer “approaches to the use of forest resources are used.
In addition to the ban, the president demanded to create and launch a single information system of the forest complex, as well as an electronic forest registry in all regions of Russia through which the movement of materials could be tracked. From January 2021, the system earned in test mode, and since July 2021 it became mandatory and was distributed to the whole country and the forest industry.
Following the results of 2021, Russia put an absolute record for the export of wood abroad. Despite the limitations and tightening of work by regulatory authorities, exports in monetary terms increased by 38 percent and reached a record $ 12.5 billion.
