From “fallen” state of metallurgists wanted money for salvation of planet

The government wanted money to save the planet in the form of payment for the transition to hydrogen production, stated in an interview with RBC Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov. In May, First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov accused the metallurgists in the “fattening” of the state.

According to Manturova, the transfer of metallurgy into hydrogen will allow to achieve beezgarrodic production, which will be aware of the national goal of carbon neutrality (absorbing all emissions manufactured) by 2060.

Currently, about 60 percent began to be made by smelting from ore a domain-converter method using coke as a coal reducing agent obtained from coking coal. This method leads to large carbon dioxide emissions. You can cut them through the use of scrap in electric arc furnaces. However, the carbon emissions can be completely eliminated only due to the use of hydrogen to restore iron, Manturov is sure. At the same time, the minister adds that in this case, electricity will be required for hydrogen.

Previously, the owner of Severstal Alexei Mordashov said that the transition of all Russian black metallurgy for hydrogen production will require investments in 10 trillion rubles and will become a “very expensive and complex event.”

According to Manturova, this amount will be required to be investing over the next 40 years – until 2060. “If divided by years, these are not such dramatic figures. The companies are approximately so much investing annually into the development and modernization of their enterprises,” the official said. Thus, the transition to hydrogen will not require, he said, state support.

In May, the First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov said that the metallurgical companies were “fallen” the state for 100 billion rubles due to successful situation in the foreign market. This amount, according to him, the industry must return to the budget as a tax.
