Negotiations between Russia and the United States on security guarantees will be held on January 10 in Geneva, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova was told during a briefing. Broadcast publishes RT.
Since there is no alternatives to the selected date, it will probably become final. The diplomat added that on the agenda of the negotiations – two draft security guarantees agreements, NATO non-reposition to the east and non-dissolution of offensive weapons in countries close to Russia.
On December 17, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia published drafts of the Russian Federation with NATO and the United States on security guarantees in Europe. In the document, in particular, it is said that Washington is not proper to create military bases in the territories of the former countries of the USSR, which are not part of NATO. The United States also did not recommend using their infrastructure to keep any military activities and develop bilateral military cooperation with them.
EU Supreme Representative on Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrel called Moscow’s conditions “completely unacceptable” and noted that this is a “pure Russian agenda.”
