The tone is solemn, the deep voice: “Now you have to be vaccinated because otherwise we will not get out of it.” The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, launched an insistent call Some five million Frenchmen still refractory to the vaccine, during the review in committee at the National Assembly of the Bill transforming the vaccineal passes, Wednesday 29 December.

Estimated to extend the vaccination of the population even further, in order to curb the dazzling progression of the Omicron Variant, the government has decided to play on several registers, to convince the non-vaccinated to take the step. First, persuasion, leaving to put a pressure stroke, warning them that they run for their health. “There is really little chance that you can pass this time between the drops, warned Mr. Véran, addressing directly to those who remain recalcitrant to the vaccine. The circulation of the virus is too strong.”

In front of the members of the Laws Committee, the Minister of Health shared his “anxiety” with regard to the health situation in France, because of “a continual increase in the number of contaminations”. After exceeding for the first time 100,000 last Saturday and 60,000 on Tuesday, the number of new cases amounted to the record figure of 208,000, Wednesday, under the effect of delta and Omicron variants. “Figures that give vertigo,” Alarmed Mr. Véran, no longer speaking “wave” but “tidal wave”.

Before multiplying the formulas and the shock numbers, intended to hit the opinion. “We have never known such a situation”; “More than a million French people are now positive”; “10% of the population is contact case”; “Every second in our country, two French people are diagnosed positive to the coronavirus.” One way to show that no one is immune to this virus, which touches “all territories”.

Message to young people

Certainly, Omicron seems less dangerous than Delta, with “a decrease of 50 to 70% of hospitalizations”. But no question, so as to rejoice, because “if you have a variant that is three times less dangerous, but that you have six or seven times more cases, the health impact is done anyway feeling”, with a Quasi inevitable saturation of hospital services, warned Mr. Véran, coughing himself on several occasions, while ensuring “not being sick”.
