The new government of Afghanistan led by Taliban (the movement is prohibited in Russia as a terrorist) appoints its ambassador in Moscow. This was stated by the official representative of the movement of Zabilella Mujahide in conversation with RIA Novosti.
“We have a plan, especially on the current embassies, according to which we appoint ambassadors in Moscow. This is a diplomatic step. Embassies and consulates are important for [establishing] relations,” said Mujahide.
He did not specify the destination and added that while the movement did not receive a list of conditions for his recognition from Russia. Nevertheless, the Taliban expects that Moscow recognizes its government, as it will contribute to the development of relations, in particular, with the United States.
On December 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that in the matter of recognition of the Taliban authorities, it is necessary to proceed from the realities and act consolidated with the international community. In addition, the decision to recognize the Taliban will depend on the development of the situation in Afghanistan.
