This was said in a statement. The highest rating received indicators in the field of corporate governance. In 2021, 155 Russian companies took part in ESG RAEX-EUROPE rating.
A positive effect on the “Rosneft” position in the RAEX-Europe rankings had an increased number of publications in the media on the ESG topic. According to Interfax Agency published in mid-December, the oil company has become the leader in the oil and gas industry in Russia to mention the context of ESG-Agenda in Russian media. In 2021, more than 2,000 materials in the media on Rosneft ESG initiatives were considered, considered analysts of the “Scan Interfax” reputation system.
Earlier in December, the first vice-president of Rosneft Didier Casimiro in an interview with the newspaper Vedomosti said that Rosneft is one of the leaders of the ESG agenda. The company pays priority to environmental protection: since 2007 Rosneft annually publishes reports in the field of sustainable development. The company is also a member of the UN Global Treaty, and in December 2018 approved the strategy in terms of commitment to 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
In December 2021, Rosneft introduced a new company’s new strategy until 2030, which takes into account the current trends related to the climate agenda, the global energy transition, the need for reliable deliveries of affordable and clean energy. The strategy provides for a decrease in carbon trail, in particular, one of its main goals is the achievement of pure carbon neutrality by 2050. The components of this goal is to implement a number of strategic initiatives by 2030, namely: reduction of emissions by 25 percent, achieving zero routine incineration of associated petroleum gas, reducing the intensity of methane emissions below 0.2 percent, translation of own vehicles to low-carbon fuel, the development of gas engine fuel network and networks of electrostating, production and implementation of the jet fuel.
An important part of the strategy is also the goal to increase the share of gas in the total amount of hydrocarbon production to 25 percent by 2025. Rosneft in the period from 2013 to 2020 increased the production of gas 1.6 times to 62.8 billion cubic meters per year. This is one of the best growth speakers in the industry. At the same time, according to the results of 2020, the proportion of gas exceeded 20% of the total production of Rosneft hydrocarbons.
