The European Union (EU) commented on the published draft amendments to the Constitution of Belarus, stating that he took note of his note, but the “National Dialogue and Honest Presidential Election in this country” remains a priority for Brussels. About this RIA Novosti said the representative of the European Commission.
“For the EU, the priority remains the cessation of repression, the liberation of political prisoners, a real inclusive dialogue, which should lead to new, free and fair presidential elections under the supervision of the Bureau of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR),” the agency’s interlocutor said.
He also stressed that these principles were voiced in October last year following the results of the European Union Summit.
Earlier it was reported that Belarusian citizens were allowed to make their own proposals for the draft new Constitution of the country. Now the new stage of work on the basic law begins, the administration said.
The updated version of the Belarusian Constitution, which has yet to be taken, contains additional restrictions on the presidential term, as well as the provisions on the Great Patriotic War. Vote for or against the adoption of amendments to citizens of Belarus to be in the second half of February.
