University Scientists Waterla in Canada found that copper copper or copper connections can inactivate or destroy SARS-COV-2 coronavirus. This is reported in an article published in the APL Materials magazine.
researchers studied how six different ultra-thin copper coatings or copper oxide interact with the HCOV-229E – the view of the coronavirus, which is genetically similar to SARS-COV-2. Testing included coatings on glass or fabric a thousand times thinner of the human hair, after which the sample was immersed in a solution containing viruses, or applied to a coating several drops of solution. Then, the solution in contact with the coating was placed in the culture of healthy cells to measure the pace of replication of the virus.
It turned out that copper and copper-containing compounds have an antiviral effect, while it is enhanced when the fragments of nanoscale films dissolve in a liquid containing the virus. According to researchers, coating with copper can be applied to the fabric from which medical masks make significantly improving protection when wearing them.
