Animal Rights Protection Center and the Vegan Society of Russia “Vita” sent a letter to the Ministry of Economic Development with a proposal to raise taxes for meat manufacturers. The National Meat Association said that the activists of this organization are engaged in nonsense, “the secret of the company” writes “the firm’s secret.”
Animal defenders reminded that the meat industry generates carbon emissions into the atmosphere and contributes to climate change. In this regard, activists called on to follow the example of other countries where they plan to introduce special tax for meat manufacturers. The head of the Executive Committee of the National Meat Association Sergey Yushin responded to this initiative negatively, calling it apparent nonsense.
“While the country asks the Ministry of Economic Development every day, which will be with prices for meat, God forbid, they will rise, because the purchasing power of the population is not growing, people offer to raise prices. Let them justify their wish at first . And I propose to raise the taxes on peas, “Yushin cheeredis. According to him, Vegans make up less than two percent of the population of Russia, and the rest of the citizens will not pay for meat more.
In the summer of 2021, the Ministry of Finance has already reacted to the idea of the introduction of the carbon trace tax in Russia as part of the carbon trail policy. According to representatives of the department, such measures are not discussed in the Ministry of Finance and are not considered in any form. The State Duma also agrees with the position of Sergey Yushina: according to the first deputy chairman of the Committee on the budget and taxes of Sergei Katasonov, the tax will not only raise the prices of meat, but will also cause discontent of the population.
