In the UN, they talked about obstacles that do not allow to get to migrants on the Polish-Belarusian border, and called Poland to provide access to the border territory to help the illegals. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the official representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Katerina Kitidi.
According to her, not only humanitarian organizations can not get to migrants, but also lawyers, media, doctors, volunteers. “UNHCR continues to encourage the Polish authorities to ensure unlimited access to migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in the emergency area, as indicated in the 1991 Agreement, signed by UNHCR and Poland Foreign Ministry and based on our mandate,” said the representative of the organization.
Kitidi noted that the UN regularly visits migrant centers and provides support to persons looking for international protection in Poland and Belarus. “We have increased the financial assistance of NGOs that provide legal assistance to people undergoing asylum procedure. If we receive disaster signals from people on the border, we coordinate our actions with our partners to save lives,” she concluded.
The migration crisis on the border of the Belarusian and the European Union began at the end of May. Large groups of illegal migrants from Africa and the Middle East began to storm the borders of Lithuania, Poland and Latvia in the hope of getting refuge. The authorities of European States believe that Minsk uses its national tour operator “Centerkurort” to cross the illegal immigrants to the EU borders to provoke a migration crisis and provide political pressure on Brussels.
December 15 became aware that several dozen illegal immigrants threw a military car with Polish border guards when he drove past barbates. Attachments at this moment were in Belarus. Warsaw believes, this attack could plan Belarusian security forces.
