German Foreign Minister Annala Berbok said that she and Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz reached a consensus on the issue of the North Stream-2 gas pipeline. She stated this in an interview with Die Zeit.
According to Berbok, now she has a shared position on the launch of the project. “Although it is no secret that we have taken different positions in the past on this issue, but as a chancellor, and I now clearly stated that the certification process should go on the basis of European legislation,” the Foreign Minister noted.
In addition, she added that the problems associated with the energy security of Germany will be important when considering the issue of Russian gas pipeline.
Earlier, the spokesman for Russian President Dmitry Peskov called on to abandon the politicization of the North Stream-2 gas pipeline certification process. According to him, many countries speak about the politicization of the project, but not Germany. The sands stressed that Berlin calls a gas pipeline exclusively by a commercial project. He also noted that what was happening at the moment is the process of certification by the German regulator. “It is no need to politicize it in any way, you don’t need to see some kind of slaughterings, here you need to patience,” said the representative of the Kremlin.
