Russian Oleg Nikitin, convicted in the United States for a conspiracy in order to violate the sanctions introduced by Washington in relation to Russia for the supply of certain types of equipment, was released from custody and went to his homeland. This is reported by TASS with reference to the words of vice-president of the Russian division of the International Committee for the Protection of Human Rights Ivan Melnikov.
“Citizen of Russia Oleg Nikitin was exempt from the conclusion and deported to the Russian Federation from the territory of the United States after almost three months after the official decision of the court on the end of its detention and more than a two-year term of serving his punishment,” the human rights activist said.
However, according to Melnikov, the American penitentiary system did not fulfill this decision in a timely manner than violated Nikitin’s rights. The Russian was placed in a deportation prison. Despite his chronic diseases, US law enforcement agencies did not provide him with medical assistance during this period. However, Nikitina managed to free and provide him to home through the efforts of the Russian Foreign Ministry, human rights defenders and the public, Melnikov said.
His guilt Nikitin recognized in March 2021. According to the prosecutor’s office of the South District of Georgia, Russian, being the head of the Russian company “CS Engineering”, through an Italian company acquired a power turbine in the United States for 17 million dollars, which allegedly could be used for deep-sea drilling in the Arctic. At the same time, sales of such equipment in Russia are prohibited by American sanctions laws.
