Sydney University scientists have disclosed that incorrect walking with excessive load on the hips and knees can lead to the premature development of osteoarthritis – an incurable disease leading to chronic pains and disability. The unexpected danger of hiking is reported in an article published in the OsteoArthritis and Cartilage magazine.
Experts analysts analyzed data 23 scientific studies in which more than four thousand people took part in order to identify relationships between different types of joints of the joints involved during walking, and their connection with the progression of osteoarthritis. This allowed scientists to create a detailed model of the shifting of the knee joint during step. It turned out that if the knee when walking is shifted first, and then inside, then the risk of exacerbation of osteoarthritis is doubled.
Currently, scientists develop methods for reducing hazardous loads on joints in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee joint to slow down the development of the disease. Researchers also study the effect of various walking styles for the prevention of arthritis.
