ELEMENTARY OS 6.1 Distribution

is presented Production of the distribution Elementary OS 6.1 , positioned as a quick, open and self-respecting confidentiality of Windows and MacOS alternatives. The project is focused on high-quality design aimed at creating an easy-to-use system that consumes minimal resources and ensures high start-up speed. Users are offered their own surroundings of the Pantheon desktop. To download Prepared Boot ISO images (2.47 GB ) Available for AMD64 architecture (for free download from website project in the field with a sum of donation it is necessary to enter 0).

When developing the original components of the Elementary OS uses GTK3, VALA language and its own Granite framework. As the basis of the distribution, Ubuntu projects are used. At the level of packages and support for repositories, Elementary OS 6.x is compatible with Ubuntu 20.04. The graphic environment is based on the Pantheon’s own shell, which combines components such as the GALA window manager (based on Libmutter), the top panel WingPanel, Slingshot launcher, the Switchboard control panel, the lower taskbar plack (rewritten on Vala Analog Docky Panel and Pantheon Greeter Sessions Manager (based on LightDM).

The environment includes a set of closely integrated into a single environment of the applications required to solve user tasks. Among the applications most of the project’s own developments, such as the Pantheon Terminal terminal emulator, Pantheon Files file manager, Code text editor and Music music player (Noise). The project also develops a photo manager Pantheon Photos (Shotwell) and mail client Mail (Evolution Branch).

Key innovations:

  • continued upgrading the application installation center, in which, in addition to packages from regular repositories, more than 90 separately supported programs distributed in Flatpak format are offered. The new version is significantly reworked by the design of the main page, at the top of which the banners are replaced by each other with information on recent issued programs developed with the support of the project. Under banners, a new section has been proposed with 12 recently updated applications for which a quick installation button is immediately shown. Information about the applications featured is now retrieved from the local database, and not from an external server, which allowed to speed up the time of formation of the main page.
