Head of WHO called upon to cancel mass holidays

General Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adan Greesusus called on people to cancel their plans for New Year’s and Christmas holidays to protect against the spread of Omicron-strain coronavirus. His words from a briefing at the headquarters of the organization in Geneva leads Bloomberg QuickTake.

The head of WHO called on to move mass New Year’s events, calling it difficult, but necessary solution. “It is better to cancel a holiday than to lose life. We all want to spend time with friends and family. We all want to return to normal life,” said Greesus.

At the briefing, the head of WHO stated that, according to his forecasts, the Pandemic COVID-19 will end in 2022. This will be possible only if 70 percent of the world’s population are vaccinated by the middle of the next year.

Earlier, the WHO representative in Russia, Melit Vuynovich, suggested that Omicron could become a “live vaccine” and will lead to the COVID-19 pandemic. She noted that this result is possible, but emphasized that at the moment it is too early to talk about the transition of coronavirus to the status of the endemic disease, since patients with Omicron are not enough.
