Lucia Hiriart, widow of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, is dead

The widow of the former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, Lucia Hiriart, died, Thursday, December 16, announced his family, confirming local media information. She went out at the age of 98, at home, where she lived with all her children and grandchildren.

In a brief statement at the press, his son Cadet, Marco Antonio Pinochet, said, “We have the great regret to announce the death of our dear mother, Lucia Hiriart de Pinochet”. The “funeral will be held in private,” he added. General Pinochet led Chile between September 1973 and March 1990, leaving behind him more than 3,200 deaths and missing persons.
