Published Production distribution libreboot 20211122 . This is the third issue in the GNU project and it continues to be presented as a test, as it requires additional stabilization and testing. Libreboot develops fully free branch from the project Coreboot , providing a replacement of UEFI and BIOS proprietary firmware, which is responsible for the initialization of CPU, memory, peripherals devices and other equipment components.
Libreboot aimed at the formation of a systemic environment that allows you to completely do without proprietary software, not only at the level of the operating system, but also firmware providing loading. Libreboot does not just clears the Coreboot from non-free components, but also complements its means to simplify use by end users, forming a distribution to which any user who does not have special skills can use.
among supported in libreboot equipment :
- Desktop Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L, Intel D510mo, Intel D410pt, Intel D945GClf and Apple Imac 5.2.
- Servers and Workstations: ASUS KCMA-D8, ASUS KGPE-D16, ASUS KFSN4-DRE.
- Laptops: ThinkPad X60 / X60S / X60 Tablet, ThinkPad T60, Lenovo ThinkPad X200 / X200S / X200 Tablet, Lenovo ThinkPad R400, Lenovo Thinkpad T400 / T400S, Lenovo Thinkpad T500, Lenovo ThinkPad W500, Lenovo Thinkpad R500, Apple MacBook1, 1 and MacBook2.1.
In the new version:
- changed changes from CoreBoot 4.14 and new versions of Seabios and Grub.
- from the assembly system is excluded support for Tianocore (Open implementation of UEFI) due to problems accompanied and the presence of unsolved problems. As a replacement in Libreboot, the payload-environment will be included on the basis of u-root , Linux and BusyBox kernels.
- solved problems using Seabios (open BIOS implementation) on ASUS KGPE-D16 and KCMA-D8 motherboards.
- extended the number of boards for which the formation of 16-mabative assemblies (C BusyBox and Linux). For example, similar extended assemblies are added for ASUS KGPE-D16, ThinkPad X60 and T60.
- Increased the number of assemblies, which contains the default MEMTEST86 + application. Not the original MEMTEST86 +, but Fork from the Coreboot project, which is disposed of problems when working at the firmware level.
- Building for ThinkPad T400 has a patch for expanding SATA / ESATA support, for example, to use additional SATA ports on T400S laptops.
- in Grub.cfg is provided with the use of LUKS with MDRAID, optimized to accelerate the search for encrypted sections LUKS, from 1 to 10 seconds, timeout is increased.
- for MacBook2.1 and MacBook1.1 implemented support for the third regime
“C State”, which allowed to achieve a decrease in the temperature of the CPU and increase the battery life - solved problems with rebooting on GM45 platforms (ThinkPad X200 / T400 / T500).
