US President Joe Bayiden decided to achieve in Congress to eliminate sanctions against the North Stream-2 gas pipeline (SP-2) from the defense budget of the United States. This is reported by Foreign Policy Edition.
According to the publication, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and other high-ranking representatives of the Bayden administration last week were personally addressed to some American congressmen with a call to cancel the defense budget amendments that suggest sanctions against the companies participating in the project.
Edition notes that, in particular, in this way, the US administration is trying to prevent the introduction of sanctions against the companies involved in the project from Germany. Such a step “caused anger from the Republicans in Congress.”
Earlier in the US State Department threatened, it would continue to introduce new sanctions against the Russian gas pipeline “Northern Stream-2”. According to the head of the press service of the State Department of the State Department of Prizes, new restrictive measures will be introduced on the basis of the Law “On Energy Security Protection” (Protecting European Energy Security Act, Peesa) from 2019.
