WHO applies an emergency meeting due to new Covid-19 strain

The World Health Organization (WHO) applies an emergency meeting due to a new strain of Coronavirus B.1.1.529, recently found in Botswana, South Africa and Hong Kong, on Friday, November 26. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to Financial Times.

Earlier in WHO, they said that at present, scientists managed to collect about 100 genetic sequences of the virus of this strain. Preliminary analysis revealed a large number of mutations in it to be learned.

On November 24, it became known that the strain B.1.1.529 was infected with ten people in South Africa, Botswana and Hong Kong. British scientists suggested that the new strain will better shy away from antibodies than delta option. Many mutations at B.1.1.529 makes it possible to assume that the virus originated in a patient with a weakened immunity – in a patient with HIV or AIDS. It is assumed that it can be the most dangerous option of infection.
