Covid-19: at elementary school, health protocol will be relaxed to limit classes

The new strategy promoted by the Ministry of National Education is based on the test of all students in a group where a positive case has been detected. Experiments have already been conducted, not without difficulty.

Test rather than close. This is the strategy chosen by the Minister of National Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, facing the irruption of the fifth wave of Covid-19. The transition from level 2 to level 3 of the health protocol, which would have meant a return of courses in a distance to high school, has not been selected at this stage. It is good, conversely, a lightening of the protocol that will be set up at school, while the number of closed classes increased from 4,000 to 8,500 in one week.

Since the spring, a case of COVID-19 trained class closure. It will not be the case soon. “We are pursuing two fundamental objectives: to maintain open schools while protecting the health of students and staff,” says the minister. In concrete terms, when a student will contract the virus, a systematic screening for the entire class will take place. Two modalities will be possible, according to local contexts: either a laboratory will make the tests or the parents will have their children test.

This new “tracing protocol” will set up gradually from Monday, November 29 and “really will generally generalize on December 6,” says Rue de Grenelle. Closures will nevertheless be pronounced, explain to the department, with a certain blur, first of all the time that students come back “little by little” with the result of the negative test or if the regional health agency considers that “The situation requires it”. To return to class, a certificate on honor will no longer suffice. It will be necessary to present the negative result of the test, free for minors, whether antigenic or PCR.

“A good news”

These ads are based on an announced experiment in early October in ten departments – L’Aisne, Ariège, Côte-d’Or, Landes, Channel, Morbihan, Moselle, the Rhone, the Val- of Oise and the Var. When a COVID-19 case is detected, a team must go to the place to perform the tests. “This device shows its relevance, but its modalities must be adapted. According to the departments, the responsiveness capacities of the laboratories are not the same,” says Jean-Michel Blanquer.

In the field, returns on this experiment are, indeed, for the least mixed. It would have made it possible to avoid 140 clashes in the Val-d’Oise, according to the Parisian. But for Olivier Flipo, school director in Cergy-Pontoise and delegate from SE-UNSA in the department, “realize the salivary tests in time has not always been possible because the laboratories are overwhelmed.” The experiment has experienced other disappointments. Rose, a mother of a student in cm1 in Toulon, has made it the expense. “The academy’s health technical cell has not been able to move,” she says, still furious. In the Rhone, 179 classes were closed Wednesday, November 24, we also provide snuipp.
