French banks were forbidden to invest in Russian megaproekt

French President Emmanuel Macron banned French banks to invest in the Russian Megaproekt “Arctic SPG-2” in Yamal despite the fact that Totalenergies participates in the project of the plant for the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG). As reports La Tribune, financing decided to limit the climate conservation considerations.

However, as the edition notes, the boycott alone is not enough to “put a footboard project”: he has already received multi-billion dollar financing from other credit institutions.

In late November, it became known that the Arctic SPG-2 will attract loans in the amount of 9.5 billion euros from Russian and foreign banks. 4.5 billion – money of Russian credit institutions. We are talking about a syndicate, including Sberbank, Gazprombank and its subsidiary of Bank GPB International S.A., State Development Corporation “VEB.RF” and Bank “FC Opening”.

Arctic SPG-2 project provides for the construction of three liquefied natural gas queues with a capacity of 6.6 million tons per year each on the bases of gravitational type. NOVATEKA owns 60 percent in the project. Totalenergies, Chinese CNPC and CNOOC, as well as Japan Arctic LNG B.V. Own ten percent each.
