Coffee improved human visual functions

Scientists University Waterla in Canada found out that caffeine increases the attentiveness and accuracy of detection of moving purposes, and also improves the reaction. This is reported in the article published in the magazine Psychopharmacology.

visual acuity refers to a person’s ability to detect and recognize small parts and can be measured in static (immobile) or dynamic (moving) conditions. Dynamic visual acuity is especially important in many everyday actions. In the new scientific work, researchers checked exactly how caffeine improves the processing of visual information.

21 volunteers took part in the study. On the day they took the caffeine capsule (at a dose of four milligrams per kilogram), and on the other day – the placebo capsule. With the help of a computer test developed and approved at the University of Waterloo, each participant was measured by dynamic skills of visual acuity in an hour and an hour after receiving caffeine.

Participants who made caffeine capsules showed significantly greater accuracy and higher speed when determining the moving targets of small size. The speed of movement of the eyes and contrast sensitivity that affect dynamic visual sharpness was also sensitive to caffeine consumption. According to scientists, the consumption of caffeine can be useful for the visual function of a person, increasing the vigilance and a sense of wakefulness. It is important for driving, cycling or sports.
