Berlin and Washington are permanent contacts along the line of restrictive measures against Russia in the event of energy use by it as weapons. This was told to “Izvestia” in the FRG Foreign Ministry.
So the Ministry commented on the publication of an informal document on the AXIOS portal, in which the appeal of the FRG embassy in Washington to the US Congress, dated November 19, with a request to refuse sanctions against the gas pipeline “North Stream-2”.
“The authenticity of the document has not yet been confirmed, but in many respects it coincides with the rhetoric of the federal government,” said the deputy of the Bundestag from the party “Alternative for German” Shteaffen Kotra. He noted that this document partly is a manifestation of a pacification policy.
At the same time, the document would be to be interpreted as “protection of their own interests.” “Germany has long succumbed to the US pressure, which contradicts international law. And now it is necessary to suspend actions against export guarantees important for the economy,” politician said.
On November 23, the Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the United States will impose sanctions against two ships and one company who participate in the implementation of the North Stream-2 gas pipeline project. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov called the sanctions illegal and wrong, and also stressed that in the Kremlin they are negative.
