The Russian Ministry of Defense disclosed data on the protection of Moscow in the winter of 1941 with an artificial water barrier. Published documents from the funds of the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation are talking about a special operation on artificial flooding territories. Archive documents were published within the framework of the multimedia historical and informative section “The Great Turn near Moscow. The immortal feat of the protector of the capital is dedicated.”
In the Ministry of Defense, noted that engineers of the Department of Military Field Construction (OHPS) and specialists of the Moscow-Volga participated in the flood operation. Water prevented the movement of military equipment, and the stakes in the ice did not allow to use a flooded plot for planting aircraft.
“One of the serious reasons for the failure of the German offensive in the north of Moscow was the creation by Soviet engineers of artificial water barriers in the valleys of the Yachroma rivers and sisters,” the Ministry of Defense reported.
The report also noted that the published encryption of November 21, 1941 suggests that the operation on the creation of aquatic barrier began to seize the opponent of Solnechnogorsk and Yachroma.
In September, the representative of the “Century Prometheus” spoke about the advantage of the T-34 tank tower. He noted that the tank received a molded tower without seams. It provided a high level of protection and facilitated machine assembly.
