Norway Foreign Minister Annichane Vitfeldt in a conversation with a newspaper VG stated that the new government of the country opposes the movements of allies Oslo on NATO near Russia’s borders and plans to limit them.
According to Vitfeldt, for Norway, a military presence in nearby areas is important for Norway, but “will be better, if we will cope with the help of Norwegian aircraft and frigates in the immediate vicinity of the Russian border.”
The Minister noted that it intends to discuss this issue with the United Kingdom and the United States, since “in the Norwegian interests to take care of the defense of these areas by independently, the forces of the Norwegian Armed Forces.” She added that now the presence of the US Armed Forces in the area near the border with Russia is no more than in other periods of the “post-war epoch”.
