Russia: amount of illegal beer increased

In Russia, the number of illegal beer increased, in the first half of 2021 its market share reached 14 percent. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the study of the Higher School of Economics (HSE).

It happened after reaching a minimum level of 5.2 percent in 2020. “The reduction in the sales of illegal products was associated with the anti-epidemic restrictions in force for most of the year, which is noticeable both production and import of illegal products. However, in the first half of 2021, the volume of illegal products rose to 14 percent,” the materials says.

Common illegal turnover of beer amounted to 920 million liters, while in January-June 2020 he reached 95 million. The loss of the state from non-payment of taxes and excise is up to 30 billion per year.

Earlier, RBC edition wrote that mandatory beer marking, which will appear in Russia since September 2022, can provoke a collapse on the brewing market.
