The international group of scientists found out that the planet giants in the V1298 TAU system reached its final size at very early stages of their evolution. This is reported in the article published in the Nature Astronomy magazine.
Researchers measured a lot of two planets-giants rotating around the young star of solar type V1298 TAU with age of only 20 million years. It turned out that in size these planets are slightly less than Jupiter, and their orbital periods make up 24 and 40 days.
Theoretical models indicate that the planet giants begin their evolution as objects are much more sized, and later shrinking for hundreds of millions or even billion years. But, since the V1298 TAU system is quite young, the planets detected giants refute this hypothesis, because they are already close in size with the gas giants of the solar system.
Scientists do not yet know whether the system V1298 TAU is a normal case and is similar to its evolution of the fate of most planets. If so, then the formation of planets, such as Jupiter and Saturn, can be very different from modern ideas.
