CEO of the European Space Agency (ESA) Joseph Ashbaher in an interview with the Financial Times newspaper made a cavement that the company’s American billionaire Ilona Mask may take a dominant position in the developing space economy, since de facto already dictate its rules in it.
“An amazing situation, but one person owns half all the working satellites in the world. In fact, he establishes the rules, and the rest of the world, including Europe, does not respond quite quickly,” he stressed.
Ashbaher called on European countries to provide their companies with opportunities for fair competition with Spacex, which unfolds a Starlink satellite network in orbit. He explained that in the future there will be much more restrictions on frequencies and orbital positions in the future.
The government of European countries should be interested in jointly providing European suppliers of [satellite communications services] equal opportunities for fair market competition, “the Ashbaher called.
He noted that American regulators are interested in the US dominated in this area, and the relevant processes occur “very quickly and with great power.”
