Former Minister of Internal Affairs of France Claude Genan is put in Santa Prison in the south of Paris in the case of corruption. It is reported by TV channel LCI.
The decision to plant a 77-year-old ex-minister to prison, followed the verdict in the case of illegal payment of premiums. As a preventive measure, the court elected a two-year prison sentence – one year from it conditional. In addition, Gean will have to pay a fine of 75 thousand euros. It is also forbidden to hold public posts within five years.
According to investigators, the politician illegally wrote out and other employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs monthly premiums. The means on them Gean took from the Police Foundation designed to ensure action to conduct investigations and surveillance for suspected persons. The amount of the victims in the period 2002 to 2004 amounted to 210 thousand euros.
