Deputy Foreign Ministry of Russia Sergey Ryabkov appreciated in conversation with RIA News of the consequences that may occur due to the placement of the latest NATO missile systems at the boundaries of the Russian Federation.
According to the diplomat, the US and allies on NATO suggest that they lead to the repetition of the sad experience of the “Caribbean crisis”, but on the new military-technical base, the consequences of such steps are difficult to predict.
According to him, NATO plans are an alarming factor and element of destabilization of the situation “not only on the European continent, but also wider in Euro-Atlantic.”
Ryabkov noted that the closer such systems will appear in Russian borders, the higher the risks of destabilization, the definite the contours of the new crisis. In his opinion, this crisis in the extent of its danger can be comparable to the “Caribbean crisis”. “In those years, politics in Washington made proper conclusions and the situation was able to stabilize, take away from a dangerous feature. What will happen next time, if it comes to this, I do not take a prediction,” said the deputy head of the Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, Ryabkov said that the consequences of NATO expansion to the east will be severe, and this situation is one of the most serious problems in the Euro-Atlantic region today. The diplomat stressed that freedom of association can not be absolute and ends where it encroaches the freedom of another.
