The Minister of Social Affairs and Health of France Olivier Veran stated that the incidence of coronavirus infection in the country remains at a high level. In an interview with the LE Parisien newspaper, he reported that France approaches the peak of the fifth wave of COVID-19.
According to him, at the beginning of this week, more than 70 thousand new cases of coronavirus infection per day were recorded with medical services. At the same time, over the past ten days, a decrease in incidence growth rate is recorded.
Veran warned against hasty conclusions and noted that in the coming days it will be necessary to make sure that the incidence went to the decline.
Currently, the French authorities consider the option with the announcement of the new self-insulation regime. According to the minister, this was facilitated by the fact that a large number of citizens were vaccinated from coronavirus. Veran reminded that this is a voluntary procedure.
Also, the head of the ministry added that it now depends on the sanitary situation and data on the Omicron strain. According to him, the first data show that the new version of the coronavirus is much more infected than delta strain. The micron strain is expected to result in a larger number of repeated cases of infection with a smaller amount of severe cases. “If the peak of the epidemic will follow a high plateau of morbidity and pressure on the health system will grow, then the question will be raised again,” he said.
