The team under the guidance of the Managing Director for Laboratory Studying Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence Sberbank and Head of the Learning Group of Reinforcement of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence Airi Dmitry Babayev ranked first in the Nethack Challenge International Competition and showed the best result in learning artificial intelligence to pass one of the most complex games in the world with a neural network.
The winners team included the senior researchers of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence Airi Dmitry Sorkin and Ivan Nazarov, as well as the Senior Laboratory Researcher on the Artificial Intelligence of Sberbank Nikita Ovsov. In total, about 500 people from 42 two teams participated in the competition. The competition took place within one of the leading Machine Training Conferences Neurips 2021.
Nethack Challenge’s task was the development of artificial intelligence that will be able to successfully complete the full NetHack game or score as much as possible.
School and Airi scientists managed to build a hierarchy of skills that artificial intelligence for playing NetHack should have, based on the use of both classical approaches to machine learning and modern methods based on training with reinforcements.
“The victory of our team at such a prestigious international competition is once again emphasized by the high level of Russian specialists in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Decisions proposed by the participants of the competition are of much broader application than a computer game. Progress in solving such tasks will lead To new discoveries in the field of robotics, for example, to improve the work of unmanned cars and cross-couriers, as well as in such areas as automation of testing user interfaces, “said Alexander Lovingin, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank.
