When creating a hydrogen market in Europe, it will be partially used to pump the active gas pipelines for pumping a new type of fuel. This is stated in a press release of the European Commission dedicated to the proposals of the gas market reforms, RIA Novosti reports.
The purpose of the EC reform sees the emergence of a full-fledged system with infrastructure and transboundary coordination, which includes firewalls. They will allow you to deliver hydrogen from areas where it is easy to produce with renewable energy sources, to industrial consumers who need eco-friendly fuel.
Refills the current gas supply routes for another purpose The authors of the initiative explained significantly lower costs compared to the construction of new pipelines.
The same press release states the possibility of a ban on long-term contracts for the import of natural gas to the region. It is assumed that after 2049 it will be possible to purchase such a type of fuel only on short-term agreements or on the spot market.
Such plans contradict Russia’s will to sell natural gas through long-term contracts. According to Moscow, only such agreements are able to eliminate the energy crisis in the future similar to the current one.
However, by now, despite record prices for fuel and rapidly empty storage facilities, there are no conversations in the European leadership about a possible refusal to the exchange principle of energy resources.
In the summer, the head of the Operator “Northern Flow-2” Nord Stream 2 AG Mattias Varnig did not exclude that in ten years the gas pipeline can completely reorient for hydrogen supplies. At the same time, he noticed that in the future the company sees its task for pumping hydrogen.
