Russia will release a hybrid power plant for aircraft

In Russia, the appearance of the demonstrator of the new power plant for aircraft was determined. The demonstrator of the hybrid aircraft engine based on the power plant of the VK-650B will be released in 2023. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Deputy Director of the Program of Prospective Engines “ADK-Klimov” (included in the Joint Engineering Corporation “Rostech”) Mikhail Sheremet.

He noted that by 2022 the company will create a demonstrator of the hybrid power plant (GSU) with the VK-100 turbostarter as a drive. Development of a 200 kilowatt demonstrator is located at the stage of the design documentation. “Now we are in the chart: the middle of 2022 – the Matchaist must already be made and by the end of 2022 should conduct tests,” Sheremet said.

The representative of the enterprise said that by 2023 a 500 kilowatt demonstrator will be created on the basis of the engine VK-650B. GSU tests scheduled for 2024.

Aviation hybrid power unit combines an electrical part with a gas turbine engine. Energy Supplies GSU can be applied as auxiliary power plant on civil and combat aircraft.

Earlier in Russia experienced a promising piston aviation engine ADD-A in an inverted position. New power plant is designed for an acrobatic category aircraft.
