European Union commented on sentence Sergey Tikhanovsky

The European Union criticized the sentences that were brought by Belarusian oppositionists, including Sergey Tikhanovsky, in the Gomel Court. The union requires the liberation of politicians and bloggers and threatens official Minsk with tightening of sanctions. The relevant document entered the “Renta.ru”.

“These sentences are another example of unreasonable accusations against citizens of Belarus, who took advantage of their right to an opinion and called on to hold free and fair elections. These sentences are part of the continuing brutal and systematic suppression of all independent votes of the country,” commented in the European Union.

The message also states that the association considers accusations fabricated, and sentences – violation of human rights. Soon the countries of Europe will consider the possibility of tightening sanctions against Belarus.

Gomel Court of December 14 sentenced Sergey Tikhanovsky by 18 years of reinforced regime colony. The oppositionist was recognized as guilty of calls to violence against the authorities and the preparation of mass riots in the country. Together with the Tikhanov court sentenced several other opposition politicians and bloggers – in particular, Igor Leosika, Nikolai Statkevich, Artem Sakova, Vladimir Tsyganovich and Dmitry Popova. All of them received from 14 to 16 years in prison.
